Sword of the Spirit - How To Make an Armor of God

Ephesians 6:17
Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

All of the kids showed up for the Swords.
They were SO excited.

What we used ....

1.  Duct tape
2.  paint stir stick (Thank You Lowes!)
3.  Little Pie tins
4.  Brown yarn
5.  scissors
6.  beads
7.  Hot Glue Gun
8.  Permanent Marker

1.  We cut a slit in the bottom of the pie tins.

This was the plan ...

2.  Wrap the duct tape around
the paint stir stick.

Leave a flap on each side,

3.  Slide the pie tin up to the tape
and secure the pie tin.

4.  Repeat procedure on the bottom
end of the sword.

5.  Cover the handle with glue,
and wrap a LONG piece of yarn
around the handle.

We gave the kids pieces about 3 feet long,
which was too long for the 3 year olds,
but about right for the 4 and 5's.

We also had to do the first wrap or two,
to get them started.

6.  Decorate.

Because we had 16 kids,
and we didn't get the tape and tins taped ahead of time,

we gave them a box of markers -
and they had a blast decorating the empty sticks.

For more durable swords,
use the large gallon sized paint stir stick.

The Tins didn't hold up very well at all.

On an earlier week,
another group in the church used
duct tape,
pool noodles,
and cut PVC pipes
to make a sword.

My kids also enjoyed running around with rulers.

  1. My FIL eats the little snack pies frequently, so I just had my MIL save them up for me. We buy them at Walmart in the bakery area, where they put the doughnuts and cookies. Not all Walmarts put them in the same location.
