Making new friends on Homeschool outings - article and replies are interesting. As an introvert, I tend to hang on the edges and not involve myself in the group unless invited, and even then I can be reluctant.

I've been saying this for over a decade .... that the number of special needs kids in our schools, and kids with allergies as well, is astronimcally increasing faster than we can figure out how to handle them safely and without hurting them, their families, or other students. I'm glad others are noticing and finally getting it out into the open. Especially as we are now asking "what do we do with all of these special needs adults?"

Lesson: Just Enjoy the Music - I've Got a Mansion

For a while here … I’ve been mulling music … and songs from my childhood. Much loved songs. Some songs I remember with one voice, and others I remember from several records, church choirs and many more. But I thought, it would be fun to feature some of those songs … into a song study for homeschools.

You can consider this a Free Curriculum if you like - or just something fun.

Compare and contrast the different groups singing the song.

Is the music all the same or did they change it?

Do you like the changes?

Did they change the speed of the song?

Did changing the speed change your emotional response to the song? Do you feel sadder? Happier? Want to dance? Go to sleep?

Are the voices high or low? Do you like the song better sung at a higher pitch or a lower pitch?

Which version did you like the best?

Learn this song as sung by your favorite group. Try to imitate their pitch and tone.

Do the singers move around? Did that add to your enjoyment or the emotional feel of the song.

Write out the words to the song. What do they mean to you?

What is the history of the song? Who wrote it? Why?

He was a happy baby with a moderate heart problem that his pediatritian was watching. It was thought that he would have 7 - 9 months to grow before the surgery would be required. The doctors/CPS had he and his big sister removed from their home when the parents missed some appointments due to car problems and the boy got very sick shortly after being removed, and so he was hospitalized and the doctors gave the boy medicine that severely harmed him and his heart. Their comment, “We made a mistake.”

CPS isn’t giving the big sister back either … she just wants to go home with her brother. It has also been in reports that the baby will not be released to the parents for burial either.

I actually disagree on one of her assumptions. Being a “fun mom” does not always mean that mom has to participate in the fun. I’ve had kids tell me I have a fun house, because we pull out crafts or games or let them run and play outside… we simply do things that they don’t do at home. Also, I try to allow my kids to do things … although I come up with ways to make messy clean up easier. I’m not always elbow deep in the fun, but by allowing the kids to do the “fun” things … somehow I become a “fun mom”. Go figure.
