MINISTRIES And CHRISTIANITY

Thoughts before stuffing all of the Christmas boxes - I think they are worthwhile, but that people seriously need to have a better idea WHAT is beneficial to the children.   Some toys make no sense to the kids, clothing is less needed than we think, why give socks if they have no shoes?  Strong smelling anything in the box ruins other products after being shipped at 150 or hotter across the ocean.   Do some investigation into where the boxes are going - try to meet the needs of kids in that area.   Or contact missionaries directly and ask if they have children that your church or group can pack a specific box for them.  Make sure you consider the cost of shipping as well.  Being among the poor, I know first hand that most people haven't a clue how to really help.  I give away 2/3 of the clothing that is given to us - wrong sizes, holes or stains or both!  I got an entire bag of socks and shoes with only 4 or 5 matches in the entire bag .... exactly what am I suppose to do with 20 unmatched shoes?   And then they are shocked to find that we have electronics ... we do have relatives who buy the kids gifts and many of them ask what the kids want.   The kids also do odd jobs and earn their money to buy things.    Just thoughts to ponder as we head into the Season of Giving.

Hoaxes that just won't go away - the thing is, most people will believe anything that they have heard 3 - 5 times, even if they are told that it is false, by the time they hear it the 5th time, they will usually believe it to be true because, "I've heard that before."    (Getting kids to eat new foods works much the same way.)
