Weekly Web Finds: October 27, 2017

Today happens to be the birthday of one of my 3 younger sisters.  Happy Birthday!

I missed last week, but I had a good reason.  Sunday, I went to the ER ... I kept going numb on my right side.   Turned out my blood pressure was extremely high, so into the MICU they put me and later determined I'd had a small stroke.   I didn't get to go home until Thursday, though my blood pressure is still not "controlled".   But it is much lower.  I didn't lose much in skills, now I'm just working my strength up again and working on losing weight.

MINISTRIES And CHRISTIANITY

My author daughter "Kendra E. Ardnek" has a group of indi-author friends, mostly christians, who inspire and root for each other.   They are a delightful bunch!   But recently they had a bit of a challenge, how to define what so many of them were writing when it didn't really fit the genre's available?

"Tiny" houses as affordable homes?     Good idea, but I would not consider these either tiny or affordable.   Growing up, most of our homes (and my parents kept foster kids, there were usually 6-7 kids always) were around 1,500 or smaller.  And most of the homes cost under $30, frequently minor fixer uppers for under $10,000.   We would very much like to buy a home ourselves.  We've been struggling to get back on our feet and into our own home again for 16 years, but the Ref is not a "fixer upper" guy.

Just Enjoy the Music : What a Day that Will Be

For a while here … I’ve been mulling music … and songs from my childhood.  Much loved songs.  Some songs I remember with one voice, and others I remember from several records, church choirs and many more.  But I thought, it would be fun to feature some of those songs … into a song study for homeschools.

You can consider this a Free Curriculum if you like - or just something fun.

Compare and contrast the different groups singing the song.

Is the music all the same or did they change it?

Do you like the changes?

Did they change the speed of the song?

Did changing the speed change your emotional response to the song?  Do you feel sadder?  Happier?  Want to dance?  Go to sleep?

Are the voices high or low?  Do you like the song better sung at a higher pitch or a lower pitch?

Which version did you like the best?

Learn this song as sung by your favorite group.  Try to imitate their pitch and tone.

Do the singers move around?   Did that add to your enjoyment or the emotional feel of the song.

Write out the words to the song.  What do they mean to you?

What is the history of the song?  Who wrote it?  Why?

What other things can you learn from these songs?

If the song is Christian… Is the Song based on Scripture?   Can you find Scripture to back up the message in the song?

JUST AMAZING STUFF

When I was a young girl, there was a sudden HUGE push to save the planet ... use plastic and save a tree.  Environmentalists around the world touted plastics as the savior of mankind.   That was only 40 years ago.  Now environmentalists around the work are like ....  use reusable containers (like before we started using paper) and save the world from plastic.     So what we need is a way to use all that plastic ....
